Using an EBT card at Trader Joe’s is quick and easy. You don’t even have to separate your grocery items from your non-grocery items. All you have to do to use your EBT at Trader Joe’s is swipe the card.
After that, you can easily choose between paying with your SNAP/EBT benefits or paying with your Cash account.
How To Use SNAP EBT at Trader Joe’s
Using an EBT card at Trader Joe’s is quick and easy. You don’t even have to separate your grocery items from your non-grocery items.

To use EBT at Trader Joe’s, here are a few easy steps to remember:
- When it’s time to pay, swipe your EBT card in the point of sale machine
- You will then have to enter your PIN
- If you do not have enough money in your EBT account to cover SNAP-eligible items, the machine will then ask if you want to use
a credit/debit card or cash to pay for the rest of the items. - Also, if you have non-SNAP eligible items in your cart, you will be able to use a credit/debit card or cash to pay for them.
- In some cases, you will be asked to show a photo ID to confirm you are the cardholder.

There are three ways to check your Texas ACCESS Card balance.
Option 1 – Via Phone
Call the Texas EBT recipient hotline at 800-777-7328.
Option 2 – Online
- You can also check your Lone Star Card balance and view recent card activity through your online account at YourTexasBenefits.com. If you do not have an account, you can set one up by going to YourTexasBenefits.com, clicking “Log in” and then “Create a new account.”
Option 3 – Using the Last Transaction Receipt.
