Step 1 – Visit YourTexasBenefits Website

The first step when creating YourTexasBenefits account is to visit the website at yourtexasbenefits.com.

Once you are on the homepage, you will need to locate the “Log In” button. It is usually located at the top of the site (see image below).

Next, click on the “Log In” button to proceed with the process.

Step 2 – Locate the Create Account Link

After that, you will see a pop-up on the page – like the one shown below.

Locate the link that says, “Create a New Account.” Click the link to continue.

Step 3 – Provide your Personal Information

First, you will be asked some personal information.

You will be required to enter the following information to create Your Texas Benefits online account:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Sex
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • Mailing Address
  • Social Security Number
  • Case Number (if applicable)

Step 4 – Confirm your Information

After that, you will be taken to a new page with a summary of the information you provided.

Review the information and if everything looks good, click the blow “Confirm Now” button to proceed.

If you need to make changes, click the “Edit” button instead.

Step 5 – Create YourTexasBenefits Username and Password

Once you have confirmed the information you entered, you will be taken to the page below, where you create YourTexasBenefits username and password.

This information will be used when you complete YourTexasBenefits login and access your benefits.

Select a username that you will remember. Your username must be between 8 and 40 characters and should not include any symbols.

Next, create your password. Your password must be between 8 and 32 characters, include at least 2 numbers, and should not be the same as your username or have the same character more than three times in a row.

Step 6 – Select your Security Questions

After that, you will be asked to set-up your account security questions.

These will be used in the case that you forget YourTexasBenefits account login information.

Select your security questions, enter the CAPTCHA code and click the “Next” button to proceed as shown below.

Who can apply for Texas SNAP?

SNAP is a federal program that provides food assistance to approximately 1.4 million eligible low-income families and individuals in the state of Texas.

In order to be eligible for SNAP benefits in Texas, individuals/families cannot exceed a certain monthly income based on their family size.

Additionally, most people age 16 to 59 must meet work rules to get SNAP benefits.

Work rules mean a person must look for a job or be in an approved work program.

Also, if the person has a job, they can’t quit without a good reason if they want to continue to receive SNAP benefits in Texas.

Furthermore, most adults age 18 to 49 with no children in the home can get SNAP for only 3 months in a 3-year period.

However, they can get SNAP benefits longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or is in a job or training program.

Lastly, some adults might not have to work to get benefits, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant.

How much will I receive in Texas SNAP Benefits?

Once you are approved for Texas food stamps, you probably want to know how much in benefits your household will get on a monthly basis.

Due to a law signed by President Biden in August 2021, Texas Food Stamps’ maximum benefits will increase by 25%.

This increase will be effective from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.

What can you purchase with Texas SNAP?

Your Texas Food Stamps can be used to buy any food or food product that is produced for human consumption.

The exception to this is hot foods or lunch counter items prepared or heated in the store.

In addition, Texas Food Stamps benefits cannot be used to buy non-food items like soap, toilet paper, shampoo, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, vitamins or medicines, and pet food.

However, you can use your Texas Food Stamps EBT Card to purchase seeds and plants for use in home gardens to produce food.
